A little about the Hanuman Aarti
An aarti is the last, loving part of a puja, when we take a lit lamp and circle it before the deity while singing. The Hanuman Aarti walks quickly through the leelas we love, Hanuman ji burning Lanka and bringing back news of Sita ji, carrying the sanjeevani to save Lakshman ji, tearing open Patal to rescue Ram ji and Lakshman ji from Ahiravan. The refrain, Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki, Dusht Dalan Raghunath Kala Ki, returns after each part, and the whole sangat joins in.
How to do the aarti
Do it at the end, after the Chalisa, the Bajrang Baan and the Ashtak. Take a thali with a diya or a piece of kapoor, light it, and gently circle it before Hanuman ji as you sing, ringing a bell if you have one. At the end, take the aarti's warmth to your eyes with your hands, and share the prasad. Tuesday and Saturday, and Hanuman Jayanti, are the special days.
